Other than getting on the Birkin waiting list (but I don’t see how this can fit in my post today) the highlight of my shopping yesterday was getting myself a Nikon D3100.
After seeing the beautiful pictures taken by Holly, Charlie, JP and John and reading their very positive feedback about my pictures (that I take usually with my iPhone, because it is so practical and easy to download) I think it was about time to get myself this new toy. I’ve spent yesterday night reading the 200 pages manual just to be able to find out how I can activate the digital screen.
If I manage to learn how to use it, I am going to take it with me today to the sunset sand safari trip…. Stay tuned for exciting sand dunes pictures… or not.

Oh, you are a lucky girl. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. I am green with envy!
thanks Cin!
That camera looks very impressive. I can’t wait to see the results.
I will do my best:)
I’ll be waiting to see the photos from the dunes…..
Wish you were there Ellen! we had a blast!!!!
Great, having seen your previous pictures I know you will be continuing to take even better ones, but give yourself some time to learn with the camera. Just remember that it is only a tool to capture your vision … concentrate on your vision … but learn how the camera operates so that it becomes a tool of your mind and you can operate it without thinking about the camera.
This is a great advice John, I will keep in mind what you are saying before taking the picture.
It is going tobe challenging the first time… will see…
Can’t wait to see very clear and detailed pictures of sand
I will do my best not to disappoint you Rich… I sitll have to go to check your art and pick up one
Cool! Good luck figuring it out, and have fun on the safari!
am going to need all the luck in the world, lol lol…this is pretty challenging for me..I hope not to spent too much time trying to figure it out and missing good shots…. will see. Thanks Gwen.
Where did you buy it from and did it come with that sweet lens?
I bought it from Dubai UAE ( I travelled right after my birthday, I didn’t get the chance yet to check your art website Rich) what do you mean by sweet lens? it has a removable Zoom… that’s all I know …till now… lol lol
As John notes …remember it’s just a tool which takes some time to learn, but the real magic of the photos is your vision.
Thanks Charlie for the advice…. now I am seeing the world through my Nikon lenses lol lol
. Every where I go I try to take a shot using different settings….I cannot wait to download them and see the final results… waiting to go back home to do it….
Congratulations! It makes me so happy to hear that you got yourself a good camera. I always thought WOW if she can do those things with her cellphone, imagine what she could do with a real camera. Do you have photoshop or lightroom? It will be a good idea to have some kind of software that’ll let you process, manage and organize your stuff too. Love you babygirl / budding journalist! xoxo (PS if you do get software, a good manual is “Teach Yourself VIsually Photoshop” (or Lightroom, if they have a version of that too. It’s very basic but perfect for beginners.)
Holllyyyyyyyyy thanks for your encouragement and for the info… I am going to order the manual and get the software!
I do know what photoshop means but I have no clue what lightroom is!!! lol lol, I cannot wait to master my new toy lol lol
Thanks babygirl!
The mystery is solved.
Congratulations on your new toy. Enjoy! … and I suspect we will as well. Ha!
