Last Saturday, Jim and I went hiking in Shenandoah. It was freezing in the morning, almost 30 F, but around 3:00pm the temperature reached 75F.
We took the Overall Run Trail, which is extremely strenuous. We hiked 9.62 miles in 7 hours. I know it is a long time to finish 9 miles but not when you are doing a steep descent along the cascade, followed by a steep ascent. The cascades were beautiful and the river was high because of the snowmelts. We had to cross many times the river, which means crawling on trees, thrown in the river, or jump from one rock to another. It was exhausting and extremely challenging. I am still sore even after 3 days. This week I couldn’t train for the 5 K or take my exercise group classes (Yoga and Body pump); I can hardly walk to the kitchen to eat:)
But it was a beautiful experience and the first hike of the year. Cannot wait to go back!

I can understand that your body is aching after such a hike… I just walk in the city and never go hiking in the mountains. I expected to see a picture of the walk but there isn’t one in my screen. Kisses
Sorry! Now I see the photos! My computer is crazy!!
I am glad that you can see them Alicia, so what do you think?
You were great and looked as beautiful as the trail. Ready to go again this week?
You are so sweet baby:) Yes, I think I am ready:) but let us find a milder trail:)
I love you sweetheart!

That sounds/looks amazing! One piece of advice Mirella if I may,do not stop exercising. In fact, when your muscles hurt from any workout, you should go back to the gym as quickly as you can. The pain will fade away. If you don’t, you will feel sore for many many days.
gros bisous
You are right Nayla! I think you make sense, because of all the lactic acid buildup. Thank you for the advice.
Kisses
The track looks a lot like the area around my village. I love to walk, slowly, in the forest around Ponte a Serraglia. I’m stuck with driving lessons every morning just now and soon lots of friends arrive, so my time will be spent doing other things.
Keep up the good work with your excercise! Deb
I’m afraid that type of outdoor adventure isn’t for me anymore…I admire people who do such things….but such beauty appears to have a high price…pain and soreness.
Hope your muscle heal quickly!
Thank you Debra and Charlie for your comments and support. I appreciate every time you read my post.
Update on my soreness, (especially for you Nayla:) Yesterday I walked 3 miles, in the city (through Georgetown), it started painful, but at the end, I wasn’t sore or tired at all. I think It reset my energy button:)
I am going again to the gym today, to resume body pump.
I will keep you posted.
Love you, all.
Glad to hear that!! Enjoy the gym!
Gros bisous
Thanks to you Nayoul! and your valuable advices:)
Somehow I missed this entry on your blog. Your hike looked like a blast! Almost 10 miles is incredible. I don’t know that I would have been able to make it. At least not without many snacks.
Also amazing is that there was that much snow on the ground still.
Yep the snow was still there!
I bet you can make it too Holly if you try!
