For the blogs hosted by WordPress.com (not the one with private domain) I have noticed that most of us don’t have the retweet button (you know, this little green square, where you can retweet the article you like, on your twitter account, and you can see how many times it was tweeted?) also called Tweetmeme button.
Well, after three days of researching, and almost destroying my entire blog’s URL and default settings, I found it. It is soooooo simple! It was made by WordPress to simplify it for retard like me! (sorry, is it politically incorrect to say that?) ok, for mentally challenged people like me.
So all you need to do is;
Start by adding your twitter name (username) where it is marked in red
tweetmeme source=”yourtwittername” only_single=false
and then, close the sentence with brackets [ ] (in other words put [ in front and ] at the end of the above sentence.)
Then, add the sentence to the page you want (after you finish writing your blog).
As simple as that!
and the Retweet Button or Tweetmeme button will appear! just like that —————————->
Retweet me please:)

Hmm, I’ve been trying to add this feature to my blog but I didn’t like how blogger had it set up (the layout was awful, not nice, like WordPress). But maybe things are updated (it’s been a while since I last checked) – taking a look now. Thx for the tip!
I checked your website and it looks great! good job Spleeness!
Just learned that this works also for Blogger. FYI.
This worked! Thank you so much. But … does it have to be added to every post?!
J
J. thank you for leaving a comment. Yes you have to add it to every post. I know that there is a way in which you do not have to do it every time, but unfortunately my tech. knowledge is so limited, and I don’t know how to do it.
If you go to WordPress forum and search a little you will find a way to do it once for all. If you find out how, please let me know.
All the best!
I went on your blog and I liked it, nice job!
Good luck J.
I like it on your site, and I probably am so far left in the outfield, that I don’t know the difference in a tweet, and a re-tweet, cause, to be honest, I have never had the time to spend figuring out what any of this “Twits” about … But, after you said it had to be added to every post, I, knowing that while I am adding already a live signature, via code, and a copyscape cover, being code, and then typing the copyright year to date etc… wow, I just couldn’t bring myself to think of having to add another separate code, at the end of every post, as I am lucky to remember to add the category, and tags before posting as it is…
So, I went to the “Twitter” button options, and added one via Text Widget…though, it apparently is not compatible with the Theme/Template sidebar that I am using ( Bueno ). This is of little concern to me though, as I am sure that it’s a minor fix… I mean, the Twitter option shows up on the side bar…just not in a decorative icon…or whatever, anyway, after seeing that it is actually functional, as in that my latest post shows up on Twitter, then I realized, that maybe when you suggested this, you were talking about something entirely different from Twitter, when you said Re-Tweet, and Tweetmeme? Wow, always something huh? So, yeah, if adding to the end of each individual post is my only issue. I am sure that I can consolidate all of the codes…Signature/CopyRight/TweetMe into one Word Doc or Zip File, and add them to the end of every post at once. But, I want to be sure I know that what you suggested on my post, was, a Twitter Button, and not another thing called…TweetMeMe, or Re-Tweet…Wow, whats next in the cyber world of twung twisters? ….Hey, Can I just use this lengthy comment as a freshly pressed post? It’s long enough…
Yes! It worked! I’ve been looking for this for a long time. Thanks so much!
I am so glad!
Thank you Kate for your feedback, it is really nice of you to comment.
I love the title of your blog: communiKate:) Very creative!
By the way, I retweeted your post:)
Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment as well as retweeted. Much appreciated

Hi, Mirella: I want this to work but when I paste in the sentence including brackets, I get the icon but instead of ‘retweet’ the work beneath the icon is ‘tweeted’ and it’s not linked to twitter. Would you know why or what I may be doing wrong? Thanks so much!
Hi, thank you for writting.
Yes it is normal because the post can be retweeted only once. And obviously you retweeted your blog already or your blog did it automatically.
Mine too, the icon shows “tweeted” in a white case with a green frame. And I cannot retweeted it anymore. But the readers can retweet your post, and just once. So don’t worry.
However sometimes the button shows green background and said “retweet”, but if you try to retweet it, it tells you that It has been alreday tweeted once:)
I have no explanation for why we cannot retweet over and over again, it could be in the icon system I installed, or just the Twiter site who doen’t want duplication.
If you have any other question please feel free to ask me, I will do my best to help you.
Take care.
I also, want to tell you that if you want me to check it for you and try to tweet your post, just send me the link. I will try to retweet you, to see if it is workign or not, how about that?
Hi, Mirella–thanks for this! My blog is http://careerowners.wordpress.com.

Hi Mirella,
I’ve been having issues getting the tweet to go through… It actually says, “URL points to the wrong story.” which isn’t true. After doing a google search for that, I noticed that many others were having an issue with that… Perhaps you might have some advice?
SO explain to me, did you put the sentence:
tweetmeme source=”yourtwittername” only_single=false
and closed with brackets [ ] ?
and when does the sentence “URL points to the wrong story” appears? in the retweet frame?
If you said yes to all of the above,
I think the title is too long, or there is some letters or apostrophe in your title that it cannot be recognized. It happened to me with the Digg button.
Did you try with other title? short titles?
I went on your website, is it hosted by wordpress.com (you don’t pay for it)? or it is your own domain?
Hi Mirella,
Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I have tried all of the above. I even linked to previous bitly short links.
Strangest thing though, there are three blog posts on the WP page and the “oldest” blog post is the only one that “works”. Being that that one does in fact work, I used that code to mimic in the other two, and still, “URL points to the wrong story”
Correct – it is wordpress.com, unpaid. Of the three, one works. So odd.
I have an idea, add the sentence to HTML not visual, do you know what I am talking about?
It’s already in HTML…
ok then put it on visual.
you know when you edit the post, you have on top two option Visual/ HTML.
Try to put it on Visual.
I’m quoting Bellafaith from the previous forum, because this is what my issue was:
“The Solution: All of the posts where the retweet wasn’t working had punctuation (namely quotes and apostrophes) in their slugs. So I made little changes (like changing you’ve to you-have) and voila! The retweet now works & no more “URL points to the wrong story”!!!”
Thought I would share in case this can help someone else
That is great! Thanks for sharing!
Yeh I knew it, must be apostrophe or something, as I said earlier, it happened to me too with Digg button.
Thanks for this tip, Mirella, it’s very helpful! I just added it to this blog of mine: http://providencelife.wordpress.com/2010/03/18/4-minutes-with-marian/#comment-19

NICE! Should I delete the quotes from the code? Or does it matter?
What do you mean by quotes? the brackets [ ] ? yes you need to put the brackets or it will not work.
I hope it is working for you, I am going to go on your website and check it out.

Thanks Mriella!!

About Facebook button, I couldn’t find out how to do it. Sorry:(
You know WordPress is working on improving their services all the time, so it might work on the free one, who knows.
Probably you could find out how to do it and write a post about it, and let me know:) how about that? believe me it will generate lots of traffic to your blog!

Okay, I just retweeted this post, now I see how it works. The only thing is I was trying to add it per/text widget, and the process given wouldn’t work. Plus, I have noticed a considerable Load Drag on my site after adding the Follow Me Button, so, I was looking around…and found a post which tells, supposedly how to add the teetmeme Button without drag….But, I was so dragged down after trying to add it in the Text Widget/plugin WordPress style, that I was too tired to try and put my code jockey helmet on. So, anyway, If I get it to work I’ll put it in sidebar, if not, I probably copy all the copyright/tweetme/and copyscape code onto a word pad and slap them all at one time at the end of my post.
Good Luck Paul!
and if you need any help let me know.
Mirella
I went ahead and added it the way you had it also Mirella, thanks again…By the way, the lag thing that I was getting after adding the first one…Or, the slow loading page, seems to be remedied by “Publishing the page” and then going back and adding the Tweetmeme button by itself, after everything else on the page was loaded. I think it has to do with the counter system within the widget, but it seemed to help. Now, though, I’m too lazy to do it, I should probably go back and reload every widget that I ever loaded onto any of my blogs, and add them back, but you know how that is…someday, maybe. I decided for the time being, as they have to be loaded per blog, I will probably just add them to the current entries that I add, and my song lyrics, I would really like to circulate the lyrics more than anything else. Thanks Again, and God Bless you for another fine job.

Mirella, This is very helpful however I am still getting the tweetmeme question mark. I put my twitter name in where you had the red ink twitter.com/MarketingMel and put the brackets around the code as you stated. It’s giving me a 404 error. My blog *is* on a redirect from a generic wordpress name BUT isn’t our twitter url what’s important here? Thanks so much!
Hi Mel
Thanks for writing,
This is the formula for you:
[tweetmeme source="MarketingMel" only_single=false]
Try it it should work.
Thanks
Mirella
Mirella, so sorry I am unable to see anything after your colon. If it’s code, would you mind re-pasting? You have been so very helpful I am definitely going to re-tweet and link to you as soon as I get this worked out! Thanks.
Am sorry there was a technical mistake
here it is:
tweetmeme source=”marketingmel” only_single=false
and you close with brackets
Let me know if it works
Mirella
Thanks again but here is the message I get along with the ?. I copied your code exactly and put brackets on the front and back. http://tweetmeme.com/about/fail_404
I am so sorry but I have no idea why it is not working for you.

I wish I could help
Sorry Mel!

Thanks again Mirella. For some reason the tweetmeme button only worked when I grew exasperated and hit the publish button on my blog-ha! Your tutorial was great. Hey thanks for this post Mirella. I have duly retweeted it for you and I will connect with you on twitter too
